Foundation Stone Laying for Sub-Regional Science Centre and Mini Planetarium at Hidkal Dam, Udyankashi, Tomorrow

The Karnataka state government is advancing its efforts to enhance science education and research for rural students. As part of a statewide initiative to establish science centres and planetariums in every district, the foundation stone for the Sub-Regional Science Centre and Mini Planetarium in Belagavi district will be laid tomorrow at Hidkal Reservoir in Hukkeri taluk, announced Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology, N.S. Boseraju.

Minister Boseraju revealed in a press statement that the project will be executed under the Rajalakhamagouda Udyankashi Development Project with an estimated budget of ₹13 crore. The Karnataka Niravari Nigagama has allocated 5 acres of land for the Sub-Regional Science Centre and Mini Planetarium, which will be developed in collaboration with the Water Resources Department and the Department of Science and Technology.

The Sub-Regional Science Centre will include a Fun Science Gallery, two Thematic Science Galleries, a 150-seat auditorium, and a computer room, designed to promote interactive learning for students. The Mini Planetarium will feature a 10-meter dome with a seating capacity of 60, with plans for either a 2D or 3D projector to be finalized soon.

The tendering process has been completed, and the work order issued. The construction of the Science Centre is approved at ₹700 lakh, while the Mini 3D Planetarium will be built at an estimated ₹330.60 lakh. The foundation stone for both projects will be laid tomorrow, January 20.

The event will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, PWD Minister and Belagavi District In-charge Satish L. Jarkiholi, and Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi R. Hebbalkar. Hukkeri MLA Nikhil U. Katti will preside over the ceremony, with participation from various local representatives.
