The Shahapur crematorium in Belagavi city will soon have a new gas crematorium. Despite the unsuccessful electric crematorium attempt at the Sadashiv Nagar crematorium, the municipal corporation’s construction department is confident that the gas crematorium in Shahapur will be a success. The plan includes not only the installation of a gas based crematorium but also comprehensive improvements to the entire cemetery. Approximately ₹4 crore has been allocated for this project, and the Municipal Corporation has already prepared the plan.

This funding was sought to upgrade the city’s cemeteries. The Municipal Corporation has decided to focus on improving the Shahapur crematorium, with the entire sanctioned amount being dedicated to this project. The construction department has announced that work will begin soon. The approved state government funds will be used to establish either an electricity or gas facility in the cemetery.

In Belagavi city, Sadashivnagar and Shahapur are the two cemeteries with the highest number of cremations. The new gas crematorium will connect to the PNG gas supply in the city. Additional improvements include constructing a protective wall around the cemetery, laying pavers, building a sewer system, landscaping the area, and erecting an arch at the entrance. The Municipal Corporation will also appoint caretakers and construct a room for them at the cemetery. Unlike the previous plan for electrification, Shahapur will have a gas crematorium.
