The survey of urban settlements within the Belagavi cantonment has been halted due to the non-availability of necessary maps. These civil settlements will be transferred to the Belagavi City Corporation, which requested the maps from the Cantonment Board Belagavi. However, the maps were not directly available, and the Cantonment Board has advised that a formal application be filed to obtain them. The survey will resume once the maps are secured.
Despite being tasked with other responsibilities like the survey of out-of-school children and the collection of municipal revenue, city staff were involved in conducting the survey in the cantonment. However, this survey lasted only one day. The Municipal Corporation has stated that the survey will restart once the maps are obtained.
A written request has been submitted by the Municipal Corporation to the Cantonment Board. The transfer of these urban settlements is ongoing between the Cantonment Board and the Municipal Corporation, with Collector Mohammad Roshan actively participating in the discussions. The necessary information and maps must be provided, but the Cantonment Board has cited regulations, stating that the maps cannot be made directly available, causing frustration among municipal officials and staff.
A meeting was held in the presence of DC Belagavi and other officials, following a disagreement over which settlements should be transferred. It was decided to conduct a joint survey with the Defense Department officials. Subsequently, DC Mohamad Roshan instructed the collection of all necessary documents before beginning the survey. Municipal officials and staff have been working on this, and the survey began on July 26. The team surveyed 60 acres of land from RTO Circle to the Fort Vegetable Market. However, the lack of maps caused the survey to come to a halt.
Residents of the urban settlements within the cantonment believe that all settlements should be transferred. However, the Board has proposed transferring only a few colonies, leading to a lack of consensus and stalling the process. The survey has also been stopped due to the unavailability of maps.
