Today MLA from Yamkanmardi and former in-charge minister for Belagavi visited the Fort lake and surveyed along with Mayor and other officers of the corporation if it was feasible to install a statue of Gautam Buddha in the centre of the island of the lake.
The lake is beautified and is developing as a tourist spot and with the installation of the tallest National flag, this place is a buzzing. At the same time if this island in the centre can also be developed with a statute of Buddha it will add more grandeur to the lake, it was discussed. It was also discussed whether a statue can be installed next to the national flag.
In April, 2017 the plan was; flagpost will be installed in front of the amphitheatre outside the lake(near BUDA office side) while the Buddha’s statue will be erected on a floating platform in the lake.
The National Flag has already been installed but if the Statue is installed on the island in the centre of the lake, it will kill the bio diversity on the island.
Over 40 species of birds at Belagavi Fort lake; Yes it is true. The small island and the lake itself attracts about 40 species of birds all the year round.
Indian Spot Billed Duck, Pond Heron, Little Egret, White Throated King Fisher, Red Wattled Lapwing, Black Winged Stilt, Grey Heron, Eagle’s, Bulbuls, Wagtails and many other species were sighted at the lake. This island in the lake is man made only but over the years it has become a breeding ground for many birds.
It’s good, but the birds may disappear.
Still the record of national flag is not active now a day’s hope it’s better to think of re hosts it make it to fly
SAVE BIRDS!
First they wasted money on flag and now one more waste task. Firstly they should focus on basic amenities such as water.
Belgaum lacks basic amenities, lets talk about 24hrs water supply, relook at the facilities in Civil hospital, this kind of activities are mere vote bank politics,
God bless belgaumites
I am waiting for day, honest tax-payers money funded statues feed the poor people as told by our elected representatives.
BASAWESHWARA statue instead of Buddha
