The Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Youth Empowerment, and Sports, B. Nagendra, announced that the government is prepared to construct a state-of-the-art international indoor stadium on government land near Yallur village in Belagavi taluk.
During the question and answer session of the Legislative Assembly in the winter session of Belagavi on Wednesday, the Minister was responding to a query of MLA Abhay Patil.
Minister stated that there are no obstacles for the state government to build a stadium, as they have received a grant from the central government. The Sports department has already allocated 40 acres of land out of the total 66 acres of R.S. No. 1142 in Yallur village.
To construct a well-equipped stadium, including parking facilities, a minimum of 55 acres of land is required. A committee of 11 officials, led by the District Collector, has been formed to oversee the land transfer process. Minister B. Nagendra added that if the local MLA provides the necessary 15 acres of land, a construction plan for the stadium will be prepared promptly.
In addition to the school and houses already built on the government land, which were distributed to the underprivileged through government schemes, the remaining vacant land will be handed over to the sports department. MLA Abhay Patil assured that the public has no objections to this proposal.
