After several delays, the highly anticipated Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which guarantees Rs 2,000 for the female head of the household, is set to be launched on August 30 in Mysuru. The inauguration of this ambitious scheme is expected to be done by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Initially, the plan was to launch the scheme in Belagavi and earlier this month Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Minister Hebbalkar even visited the venue at CpED. However, it was later decided that the launch would take place at the District Stadium instead.
The Congress-led government in the state has chosen Maharaja College Ground as the venue for the event and aims to gather more than one lakh people to attend.
Originally, the government had intended to launch the Gruha Lakshmi event in Belagavi, but it was relocated to Mysuru to accommodate Rahul Gandhi’s schedule.
Hebbalkar announced on Sunday that immediately after the launch, 1,09,54,000 registered women would receive Rs 2,000 in their bank accounts.
The event was initially scheduled to be inaugurated on August 20, but it was postponed to August 27 before finally settling on August 30.
Public Works Department and District Incharge Minister Satish Jarkiholi expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to shift the Gruha Laxmi Scheme launch event from Belagavi to Mysuru. However, he was unable to provide any reasons for the change.
During the cabinet meeting, it was explained that the event was being shifted because Rahul Gandhi had a prior commitment in his Lok Sabha constituency of Wayanad.
