FOSSCON: Three days annual conference on Free and Open Source Software is inaugurated @ KLS Gogte Institute of Technology

In a vast growing world, engineers must understand the importance of technical education and try to come up with smart ideas and solutions for today’s societal problems because hallmark of engineering is to build/create new things, said Prof. Satish Annigeri, Registrar (Evaluation), VTU, Belagavi. He was addressing the audience as a chief guest at the inauguration of Conference on Free and Open Source Software (FOSSCON)-2019 jointly organized by Department of Computer Science & Engg and Information Science & Engg, KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi.

With so much talented young technocrats we are becoming the country of downloader’s through which we are helping others to grow in the respective fields, he said. Just don’t read the fundamentals rather put them into practice which will help you to think and create/modify/improve softwares with purpose, he said. He briefed about the origin of Free and Open Source Softwares. He said free means freedom, not like freebies, those who create open soft ware’s they will become entrepreneurs. He also stressed on the importance of Free and Open Source Softwares for education and also for building communities. He appreciated team GIT for conducting this very unique kind of conference in this part of Karnataka.

Rajendra Belgaumkar, Chairman, KLS IMER and Member, Governing Council, KLS GIT speaking on the occasion he said we are in the era of interdisciplinary so we need to learn things from all the corner and think about the possibilities of applicability of latest technology. Engineering students have to think about the origin of each bit of recent developments for career building in the respective field, he said. He called upon the participants to make use of such events and to apply innovative ideas in engineering.

Shri. D. A. Kulkarni, Principal, KLS Gogte Institute of Technology welcomed the gathering Dr. Ramachandra T.V, Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Dr. Uday Shankar Puranik, Mentor for change, Atal Innovation Mission, were the keynote speakers for the conference. Prof. Gajendra Deshpande, Organizing Co-chair, gave an insight about FOSSCON.

More than 150+ participants from Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka have been registered for the conference.
