Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M B Patil, clarified on Monday that only 0.58 TMC feet of water from the Hidkal Dam in Belagavi district is being used for industrial purposes in Hubballi-Dharwad. Addressing concerns raised by the opposition, he emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure water availability for industrial growth.

In a press release, the minister stated, “As per the tribunal verdict on Krishna river water sharing, 4 TMC feet of water has been allocated from the Hidkal reservoir for industrial development. However, we are utilizing just 45 million liters per day (0.58 TMC), which will not create any issues for Belagavi district residents.”

Patil clarified that the water supply for the project is drawn from the downstream river and not directly from the dam. He urged mutual understanding between the people of Belagavi and the neighboring districts.

He reassured the public that water allocations for agricultural land and drinking purposes remain unaffected. “Those opposing this project should note that it is designed to ensure both development and sustainability,” the minister added.
