Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has dismissed speculation about former Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore joining the Congress, emphasizing that his recent visit to Kore’s house was purely personal. “We did not invite Prabhakar Kore to the Congress party, and he will not be joining. This was just a friendly visit,” Shivakumar clarified while speaking to the media on Monday.

During his visit, Shivakumar highlighted Kore’s contributions to public service, stating, “Prabhakar Kore is our eternal friend and a respected figure. His institutions have always cooperated with governments, irrespective of political affiliations. For the upcoming Gandhi Bharat program, he has generously offered over 170 rooms from his educational institutions for dignitaries and has extended other essential support.”

Reflecting on his time at Kore’s residence, Shivakumar expressed gratitude for the hospitality. “I enjoyed a wonderful meal, including jola roti (corn roti). There’s a saying that those who eat corn become strong and resilient, like a wrestler,” he quipped.

Praises for Kore Family’s Legacy

Shivakumar also lauded Kore’s family’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle, noting, “Prabhakar Kore’s family has made significant sacrifices for the nation. His father was a freedom fighter who offered both financial and moral support to the movement.”

Sharp Response to BJP and Yatnal’s Remarks

Shivakumar deflected the query when asked about Kore’s standing within the BJP. “If you feel Kore hasn’t been given opportunities matching his capabilities, that’s a question for the BJP,” he said.

Responding to BJP leader Basangouda Patil Yatnal’s controversial statement linking Jawaharlal Nehru to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, Shivakumar retorted.

Gandhi Siblings to Arrive for Program

On preparations for the Gandhi Bharat event, Shivakumar confirmed that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi would arrive at 10:30 a.m. on the 21st, directly at Suvarna Soudha, to participate in the historic occasion.
