In a significant move to bolster railway infrastructure and services in the region, MLA Abhay Patil Belagavi South and Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar met with Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, at his Lok Sabha constituency office in Hubballi. The meeting, also attended by Arvind Srivastava, General Manager of the South Western Railway Zone, and senior railway officials, focused on advancing key projects in the Belagavi Railway Division.
Key highlights of the discussion included:
1. Introduction of Vande Bharat Express
The leaders emphasized the need for improved connectivity between Belagavi and Bengaluru. Minister Pralhad Joshi directed officials to ensure that the Vande Bharat Express starts from Belagavi in the morning, reaches Bengaluru and returns to Belagavi the same evening. This initiative promises to enhance convenience for travellers from the region to the state capital.
2. New Railway Line Between Lokapur and Dharwad
A proposal was revisited for a new railway line passing through Ramadurg and Savadatti. Originally surveyed in 2019 but shelved due to high costs, the project holds immense potential for pilgrims visiting the Shri Kshetra Yellamma temple in Yellammana Gudda. The minister urged officials to reassess the survey and feasibility of the project, which could serve thousands of devotees.

3. Electrification and MEMU Train Services
With the electrification of the Hubballi Railway Division now complete, the minister proposed the introduction of MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains on routes such as Hubballi-Vijayapura, Davanagere-Chikkajajur, Belagavi-Hubballi, and Belagavi-Miraj. These trains are expected to greatly benefit local commuters, enhancing connectivity across the region.
Railway officials expressed optimism about the proposals and assured timely implementation of these projects. The initiatives, once realized, are poised to significantly improve railway services and infrastructure in the Belagavi region, contributing to its economic and cultural growth.
