A city is known to the world by its industries and Belgaum is known to the world as a foundry hub. With all major industries revolving round the foundry business, the industrial areas like the Dutch industrial area and other areas such as Macche or Udyambag are the main industrial areas in town.
But currently these industrial areas are becoming garbage dumps, as the garbage is dumped and the corporation does not pick it up.
Speaking to AAB, Anand Desai, industrialist said that, “ The CCB is least bothered to even collect garbage, its been lying there since so many months. Residents nearby dont have a place to throw it so they come over and throw it in the industrial estate because no one here shouts at them and even if we do, they say what are you going to do about it. They say go and complain if you want to, they very well know that CCB is a deaf ear to listen to such problems.”
Another cause of concern is the proximity of the residential area from the industrial area which is less than 100 feet in many cases. The said industrial area was developed way back in the early 1980’s then how is that residential houses were allowed to be built in such proximity, Mr.Desai asks.
