The Karnataka High Court is set to continue its hearing on the state’s appeal against a single bench order that annulled its decision to conduct board exams for students in classes 5, 8, 9, and 11. The hearing presided over by Justice K Somashekhar and Justice Rajesh Rai K, saw the state’s Additional Advocate General (AAG) presenting arguments.

Currently the Exams have been postponed after 2 were held on March 11 & 12 after the SC intervention.

According to the AAG, despite exams being conducted and completed, the release of results for the 11th standard has been halted due to a stay order from the Supreme Court. The situation regarding exams for classes 5, 8, and 9 is complex, with exams commencing on Monday as scheduled but subsequently halted by the Supreme Court’s intervention.

The crux of the matter revolves around the rights of children, with both the appellant and respondents presenting their respective positions. Respondents have been granted the opportunity to submit written arguments, with copies to be provided to the AAG, in addition to presenting their case orally.

The hearing is slated for a relisting on March 15 at 10:30 AM for further deliberation. The outcome of this legal battle holds significant implications for the students affected by the decision to conduct or cancel the board exams.

  1. State government shouldn’t play with young student’s mental agony. Why it took so many months to consider holding board examns and fight a legal battle in court. Students should be free to complete the academic year successfully per their school advice.

  5. There is no logic in conducting board exams for children on 5th class and 8th class. There can be board exams from 9th onwards. Surely some mafia is in play.

  6. Karnataka government has many options open to them for evaluating the students. It need not be Board exam or public exam. All the employees in education department including BDO sit in comfortable air conditioner office and spend time. They should visit all the schools and acess the quality of teaching and standards. Instead of doing it they subject children to extreme mental stress. RTE Act clearly mandates exams to be conducted by school and evaluation to be done by the same teaching staff. This gives a fair idea to teacher where the students stand, and what improvement further required to be done. Conducting Board exam is not the solution. CBSE is making an effort to move towards Open book examination, where as State is going backward.

  7. There should be board exam for all four classes and it should re-start soon and end soon, so that the students can relax during this summer heat. This is the horrible thing that they are putting students education into dilemma whether they should concentrate on their studies or simply take it lightly, if the decision will not take immediately, the students will surely lose their interest in studies.
