In somewhat very filmy style kidnapping, six persons kidnapped Sudheendra K. Dhulkhed, Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at the city-based Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT) while he was on his way to the College near Hindwadi. But the police were able to trace him and the kidnappers in about 3 hours.
Speaking to the media Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) G. Radhika, the accused Ashok Mattikopp, Bhimappa Nayak and car driver Adiveppa Kori kidnapped Sudheendra at about 9.30 am but while he was being pushed into the car he shouted for help and passers by who were a bit far away did note down the car number of the kidnapper and informed the police.
Police immediately put in nakabandis at all entry/exit points to the city and district and special team succeeded in tracing the accused at a farmhouse in Bairanatti village near Kardiguddi, about 20 kms from here and rescued the hostage.
Sudheendra was physically tortured but there were no major injuries necessitating hospitalisation.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ashok Mattikopp, was one of the nearly 320 workers appointed on contract basis at the Visvesvaraya Technological University, and Mattikop claimed that several workers had paid money through Prof.Dhulkhed for regularisation of their services when the latter was with the VTU PG centre at Machhe on deputation between Nov.2011 to Dec.2016.
But as some of them could not regularized, and were after him to take back the amount, stated to be in several lakhs and they decided to kidnap Prof Sudheendra so that they could get their money back.
