Citizens of Kolhapur will no more have to travel all the way to Pune to get their passports as the head post office will offer the service Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) from March 25.
Even Belagavi has been allocated one POPSK in the first batch announced on February 9, 2017 and Kolhapur was later included in the second Batch of POPSK on February 28, 2017, and today on March 25 the Kolhapur POPSK will be inaugurated and Belagavi is still waiting for the POPSK to commence operations.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Posts (DOP) had announced on 24 January, 2017 their decision to utilize the Head Post Offices (HPO) in the various States as Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) for delivering passport related services to the citizens of our country. The objective of this partnership is to extend passport services on a larger scale and to ensure wider area coverage.
Now what is stopping the commencement of the POPSK at Belagavi Post office is still unclear. Our Honorable MP, Suresh Angadi had posted on Facebook
A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Belagavi is now to start functioning in the association with the Department of Posts by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India, New-Delhi..This is stated in a letter, dated 16th Feb,2017 written to me by the External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj. I take the opportunity of thanking Union Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj ji on the occasion..
10 POPSK’s sanctioned in the first batch have already commenced and one from the Second batch (Kolhapur) will commence operations from March 25, then what is keeping Belagavi behind is the question the citizens are asking.
