4.50 PM update

All major streets in the main city area of Belgaum had a deserted look with almost all shops closed by 2 pm. A few shops were open which also closed as the day progressed. It was like a Bandh situation in the city. However in the suburban areas shops were open but the number of people were very few. Raviwar peth and adjoining areas were also open.

Thanks to the rumors making the rounds businessmen thought it fit to close the shop and spend some quality time with their family.

The tension which began on Wednesday night from Khadak Galli and Chavat galli today also spread to nearby streets like Khade Bazar where miscreants tried to pelt stones on buildings and even autos and cars parked on the street.

The police say the situation is under control and more forces have been called in from various districts.

Tomorrow CM Siddaramaih will be in the city to inaugurate the new police Commissionerate. Hence the police are keeping more vigil and have got the situation under control.
