Trucks bearing Maharashtra numbers were stopped and smeared with black ink, and at least one of these pelted with stones, at Hire Bagewadi toll near Belagavi after a protest by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.
In a resiprocal action buses with KA numbers were smeared with black color in Pune and other cities.
Following the incident, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Kolhapur unit has threatened to visit Belagavi to protest.
Reacting to the violence in Belagavi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said, “Maharashtra has taken patient position. But it has limits. If attacks on Maharashtra vehicles do not stop in 24 hours then whatever happens will be responsibility of Karnataka CM.
