MLAs skip session to attend wedding at Gokak

The first day of the winter session of the state legislature in the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha on Monday saw very little action and attendance.

Of the 224 legislators, 182 had signed the attendance register but only 64 were present in the House for the debate.

Most of the MLA’s and MLC’s had gone to attend another big fat wedding, that of small scale industries and Belagavi district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi’s son in Gokak.

It was expected that the attendance in the morning session would be affected but even in the afternoon session only 64 legislators turned up.

Cutting across party lines, at the Jarkiholi wedding, legislators attended the wedding which in a way showed the political influence of the powerful sugar baron.
