Hearing a petition filed by Rupa Narsekar and 39 other councilors from Belagavi challenging to quash the government’s notice to dissolve the Belagavi City Corporation, Justice Vineeth Kothari asked the petitioners to find a solution to the issue with the under secretary to the government who had served the notice. The High Court on Monday declined to interfere in the show-cause notice issued by the State Government.
The State Government issued a show-cause notice on November 5 to Patil as to why the Belagavi City Corporation should not be dissolved and why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.
The petitioners contended that there was no reason for the government to have proposed to dissolve the entire body consisting of 58 elected councilors just because the mayor failed to participate in the function held on November 1.
The petitioners said the State has pre-determined to dissolve the corporation in exercise of the powers under Section 99 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, although the remaining 57 councilors are in no way concerned with the mayor’s act.
Mayor Sarita Viraj Patil and Deputy Mayor Sanjay M. Shinde, the duo kept themselves away from participating in the ‘Maha Melava’ – a parallel Marathi people’s session – organised to oppose the holding of a legislature session in Belagavi on Monday.
If they have not given any notice they would have participated in ‘Maha Melava’ as well..
It is because of the notice they did not attend Maha Melava, otherwise they would have attended there also…
