The Karnataka government’s earlier proposal to convene the monsoon session of the legislature at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi appears to have been shelved, with district authorities yet to receive any official instructions to begin preparations.
Sources in the district administration said that the decision taken earlier to hold the session in Belagavi during the second week of July is no longer being actively pursued. Officials point to the absence of any communication from the state government regarding arrangements that are typically initiated well in advance of a legislature session.
Belagavi district authorities had already started preliminary planning based on the earlier indication that the session would be held here. Initial meetings were conducted to coordinate accommodation, security, transportation and other logistical requirements for legislators, government officials and visitors.

Sources suggest that the change in plans may be linked to the state government’s current focus on cabinet expansion and related political priorities. With significant attention being devoted to these developments, the monsoon session is now expected to remain in Bengaluru.
The proposal had gained further momentum after Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti publicly expressed support for holding the session in Belagavi.
Speaking on the issue, Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan said the district administration has not received any directions from the state government regarding the conduct of the session in Belagavi.
