The Mumbai crime branch busted a fake vehicle insurance racket operating out of Belagavi and arrested three persons including top management. The illegal racket was broken after unit three of the crime branch found an office in Lower Parel offering door-to-door service and selling fake insurance policies to over 800 persons.

The arrested accused were identified as Prashant Sutar (25), CEO; and Inayat Abdul Bedrekar (31), general manager, both of whom operated from Belagavi. The police arrested Gajanan Patil and during his interrogation, they learned about the duo and the company’s head office at Belagavi.

The third accused was identified as Gajanan Patil (28), a supervisor who operated out of the fraudulent company’s Lower Parel office. The said company was identified as One Point Solutions General Insurance, reports the Asianage.

A preliminary probe by the police has revealed that the accused have so far sold over 800 bogus insurance policies in the Mumbai, reports Business-Standard.

Based on a complaint lodged by one of the victims in the case, a police team raided the office of ‘One Point Solutions General Insurance’ at Lower Parel in central Mumbai on Tuesday.

During the investigation, it came to light that Sutar and Bodraker were based in Belagavi and operating the business from there. Accordingly, a police team was sent to the southern state and a raid was conducted at the company’s office in Mumbai, Business Standard said.

They only targeted two-wheeler insurance customers and had a database of those whose policy was about to expire. They would call these people and offer them cheap policies,” said Sanjay Nikumbhe, senior police inspector, Unit III, Crime Branch. They would convince customers to issue cheques in the name of their company, promising to pay the insurance firms later, the police said, reports the MumbaiMirror.

A case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc) and others have been registered at N M Joshi Marg police station.
