Over 800 municipal employees of the city corporation today protested at Rani Chennamma circle by forming a human chain and blocking traffic for about 15 minutes and then later gave a memorandum to the Regional commissioners office demanding the disqualification of councilor Minabai Chougule, whose husband was arrested by the police yesterday for interfering in the work of demolition of encroached property.
Minabai’s husband Shiva Chougule and Mohammad Rafi Desai who allegedly attacked the officials who were on duty are in judicial custody. Malmaruthi police filed case under IPC 323, 353 and 504.
No work happened even today as the staff was on strike. Sources say that the disqualification of the councilor is very likely and an order is awaited from the urban development ministry.
