A group of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike workers on Saturday morning defaced the name plates of Mayor Sarita Viraj Patil, Deputy Mayor Sanjay M. Shinde, MLA Sanjay Patil and Sambahji Patil inside the Belagavi city corporation office.

KRV workers were among the group staging a protest in the premises of the Belagavi City Corporation, demanding that the government supersede the BCC council as a punitive measure against the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Marathi speaking councillors participating in the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti organised ‘Black Day’ observance on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations.

nameplates-blackLeaders of the city and taluk units of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) on Friday met Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram and City Police Commissioner T.G. Krishna Bhat and conveyed their concerns over the alleged arrest and harassment of MES workers for participating in a ‘black day’ rally during the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations on Tuesday. Four were arrested from Market Police station limits and 37 people were from the Shahapur police station limits.

The state government has issued a show cause notice to Mayor Sarita Patil and her deputy Sanjay Shinde for participating in ‘Black Day’ rally instead of Karnataka Rajyotsava day programme.

Shiv Sena workers staged a protest at the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary. Sena workers stopped Karnataka State transport buses on the other side of the boundary at Kagal of Kolhapur district on Saturday afternoon.

Heavy vehicles and buses from Karnataka are being stopped from entering Maharashtra, only private vehicles are allowed. Buses and heavy vehicles are being stopped at Koganoli toll plaza at the boundary.

  1. Too bad is happening in Belagavi instead of development. Anti state activities should be stopped and focus should be on only development.

Following polititions is not good bcoz they use people for their own benifits.

  2. Anti karnataka slogans should not be allowed in the state..All such rallies should be outside the state. why are ministers / government are allowing such protests inside Karnataka…..ALL POLITICS .!!! The Govt has to be blamed for this situation..disturbing harmony among belgavi citizens..

  3. I think people should understand that it is a dead issue and move on. And think and concentrate more on the development issue rather than creating divide among themselves for people of Belgavi who are living in peace and harmony.
