In a significant move to improve connectivity and ease the pilgrimage journey for lakhs of devotees, Jagadish Shettar, MP Belagavi, has called for a survey to explore the construction of a new railway line to Savadatti. The proposal was presented to Union Minister Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi, with Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr. Somanna Manya, accompanying and supporting the petition.
The renowned Savadatti Sri Renuka Yallamma Devi Temple attracts devotees from across the country, but the current road-only access often results in significant traffic congestion and long delays. Addressing this issue, MP Shettar emphasized the urgent need for rail connectivity to Savadatti to facilitate a smoother pilgrimage experience.
“Providing a railway connection to Savadatti is essential to accommodate the large influx of devotees and alleviate the traffic issues on the temple road,” MP Shettar stated. He requested the Union Minister of Railways to instruct the Hubli SWR General Manager to survey the proposed railway line.
Responding positively, Union Minister Vaishnav assured consideration of the matter, signaling potential progress towards the new railway line.
In addition to this proposal, MP Shettar also raised the issue of cases registered against hundreds of farmers who halted trains at Hubli railway station in 2016, protesting for the Mahadayi project implementation. He urged the Railway Minister to annul these cases, to which the Minister promised a thorough review.
The proposed railway line and the potential annulment of cases against farmers mark significant steps towards addressing local issues and improving infrastructure and justice in the region.
