Oct 6, 2012 by Uday Feb 8, 2018 36 Comments

belagavi

At 1030 a.m. There has been almost NO impact of the Karnataka Bandh in Belgaum city. Traffic is normal and most schools are running however a few schools have declared a holiday. Banks, commercial establishments are open in the main market as of now.

Just getting reports that a few people on bikes asked to close shops in Tilakwadi area.
Main city Market is open and normal even tough the number of people expected on Saturday; is less.

belagavi

The activists of Karnataka Nav Nirmaan Pade, Karnataka Rakhshane Vedike were arrested as they protested at Chennamma Circle separately. Even tyres were burnt at the circle as part of the protest. They were later released.

@ Nitin, I really appreciate your effort in defending & highlighting the cause-&-effect of Supreme Court’s verdict on people of Karnataka. I think now you are in a better position to realize & understand the vows of Marathi People residing in disputed part of Karnataka. Till date whatever protest, rally/Melava, bandh we called, we were termed as anti-development, anti-state people. We people living here are not few hundreds or thousands, we are in lakhs together facing the wrath of Kannada compulsion in our day today life. In Democratic country like ours is it wrong to ask Government documents pertaining to Gazatte notification, land records, mark sheets, sign boards/ Name plate etc. Leave Belgaum City, see the neighboring towns and villages and problem faced by people due to this. In a democratic country one cannot be forced to learn or Study on particular language.
Instead of address the people’s problem, Karnataka govt is busy Instigation & hurting the sentiment of Marathi People like renaming the city from Belgaum/Belgav to Belgavi, renaming the city circle/choks. Removing the Marathi Sign Boards & replacing it with kannada, Holing the VKS, Buildiing the Suvarna Soudha, Making kannada compulsory in Government office & establishment. Catch holding the protest youth & farmer and charging them under false allegation (making them ineligible for apply for Govt Jobs) Blacking the faces of people representative. Govt has money to spend money on buying SUV for ministers & MLA, organizing foreign trips, buying ipads & no money & time to address our problem.
and Dear Nitin still you ask us to forget the border dispute and support your cause.

I would like to ask you only one question. Are Marathi people are the only one staying in border regions.
There are lakhs of Kannadiga’s staying in Borders of Maharashtra as well.Do they behave the same way as you people are?? instead they have adopted to that land and staying peacefully.

Thats it!!! I was expecting the same question. The answer is that MH Govt there is treating people well and hence people are leading peaceful life. The same is not in Belgaum & other disputed territories. The acts of Govt are forcing people to come on the road right from day 1 of Nov 1956.

OMG..I think you are dreaming.!!! Maharashtra govt is treating kannadiga’s very badly.
eg:l , kannada school’s are being closed, few of those ,which exist , no facilities have been provided. The same is not in belgaum and other border areas in karnataka.(improve ur knowledge dude). In Belgaum itself you can find many institutes(schools,PU colleges,Engineering college, dental college etc) which belong to you guys.
what I wanted to say was, Kannada people ,who are staying in border regions,(or in general)dont want to distroy peace, they adjust and stay peacefully on the land in which they are.You took this to frame your answer..!!!! 🙂

We all know very well who treats whom how? That’s the reason Biharis and UP people are beaten up and MH Govt does nothin about it! …Marathi is strongly enforced in Goan schools…Try to kill Konkani..! Its your stubbornness that you have been on road since 1 Nov 1956 and do not blame others for it.

I do not know why these bandh n all? Whats the point in it when the water is already moving out of cvry. 1 day india another karnataka bandh. Its waste of revenue. And belgaum need not take it seriously. If these happen frequently then 1 day prisoners will go strike and u gonna support the felons? Look mutual co-op is imp. India is though just a developin country. These disputes will be there. As its very much diverse let the law of supreme court be taken before jumpin conclusion.;->

People who are talking karnataka not releasing water, should read the events properly. the PM ordered karnataka to release and then only today have the investigating team arrived to assess the ground realities.

    What a joke!

Somebody was praising magarashtra for releasing water voluntarily, thats one more joke.. it was mutual understanding at that time to release water to each others’ drought hit areas.

The big question is.. will this editor publish my post at all? coz everytime there is a pro-karnataka post, this guy does not even allow the post to be published..

    barla..

Why should we do Bandh for South Karanatka? We dont identify with their culture / food. They never feel our pain. Have you ever heard of Banaglore bandh because of any North Karnataka issue? Have they bothered to give us water on daily basis? Observe bandh for any of our cause?

ya,proud to be a belgaumite.but why you do not want to support bandh.?,Because its cauvery issue and nothing to do with belgaum or is it that you are against the people of karnataka/karnataka as a whole. The whole purpose of today”s bandh was to show the center/state govt ,also tamil nadu govt the water problem that Karnataka is facing and to show that the people of karnataka are against the decision of supreme court and it should reacces its decision in favour of both the states.Govt of Karnataka has failed to play its role in this issue , keeping state’s current water situation in place.

Karnataka Govt don’t want to share its water with Tamil nadu. It forgot during summer when North Karanatak was facing severe drought, the Maharashtra Govt release water to NK in the month of April even when the Maharashtra was under severe drought. Karnatak Administration is selfish, they want everything but they don’t want to share anything. Example, Border Dispute an/or Water Dispute.

The quantity of rainfall in NK is less, compared to Mah.So Karnataka govt had requested Maharashtra to release minimum water from its dams, and it was a good negotiation between karnataka and maharashtra govt ,to solve the water crises, considering drought of both the states. We should also thank maharashta for this. But in Cauvery issue, Karnataka govt has failed to put its view clearly. The fact is rainy season is over in karnataka, and this year the quantity of rain received is also less, because of which few dams like KRS, etc did not receive much water as expected. So releasing water to TN , will result in scarcity of water in dams, which are the only source of drinking water to most of south karnataka districts , especially bengaluru city, which requires in huge quantity. Still summer season is yet to come :(:(..
Also rainy season is not yet over in TN,some showers are still to fall from OCT-DEC(according to experts) .So they can expect their dams to receive water. We must also blame Central Govt for its partiaility , in solving the issue. Its not that Karnataka govt doesnt to share, first we must look into our situatuion and then see others.right? If we dont have sufficiant water to solve our own problem , then how can we share with others??its common sense…
I dont know why border dispute is brought into picture .!!

hmm..I agree with what you said.Depends on the area man.Even I heard people saying that they get water every alternate day.But how long this continues.Once the Cauvery water diminishes,if they leave water to TN(first of all the water quantity is less ) ,then the whole city will face problem. In area where I am staying, has severe water problem, every alterante day tanker is called. The question is not only of Bengalruru city alone. Its also about the adjoining rural areas and other districts as well.

@Shiv: Getting water on alternate days is true for only the old areas of the city where the Cauvery connection is available. Have you ever seen the places which do not have the connections and are very much integral part of the city?

I am an Indian, then kannadiga.I would have echoed the same comments even though I am staying in chennai.I can also say that your comments are also foolish, because you wouldnt have said this if you are staying in any south karnataka districts, especially, in Bengaluru,Mysore..!! I think you are not resident of SK area so you are saying thiz.I think you are not a kannadiga first of all.:) .The police protection is arranged so that there is no fight between any two communities(linguistic/religious)during any protest,Dont take it in other way.
Regarding bandh,a state wide bandh was called some months/years back,in favour of kannada/karnataka for belgaum and it was total successful.I dont remember exact date. Will let you know shortly ,with proof.

Maharashtra govt release water to Karnataka, considering their situation also.Or else even they will deny,if they dont have sufficiant water in their dams. The fact is Karnataka govt has failed to put its view in Supreme court on current drought situation in Karnataka, and the quantity of water in the dams, because of which Supreme court has asked to release water.
