Notices for land acquisition in the Sambra area are being issued to widen the Belagavi-Bagalkot state highway. Within the next two days, talathis will distribute these notices to all affected households and businesses adjacent to the highway. This marks the beginning of the second phase of the widening project, which will expand the road to 100 feet.
The initial phase saw the road from Marutinagar to Nilji widened to a double lane, while the stretch beyond Nilji remains a single road. Recently, a survey was conducted to assess the requirements for expanding this road further. The new layout includes 50 feet on either side of the road’s centerline and reserves 10 feet to construct sidewalks, enhancing accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
While some homeowners have proactively left open space in anticipation of the project, several buildings, particularly those between Nilji and Mutga village near the airport entrance, are built close to the existing road. The planned expansion will impact numerous homes and businesses in this area, leading to potential relocations and disruptions.
Talathis received the notices two days ago but are set to start distribution on Thursday, November 14. These notices prohibit any new construction within the designated land acquisition zone. Families whose land will be acquired may seek compensation under the project’s guidelines.
The expansion to a double road up to Sambara Airport is expected to improve connectivity significantly. Adjacent villages have already been advised to leave space for future road expansion in their construction plans.
