A team of officials, entrusted with upholding the model code of conduct, conducted a visit to the residence of Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister of Women and Child Welfare, in response to reports suggesting her involvement in a campaign meeting with ASHA and Anganwadi workers on March 20.

Speculation swirls around the potential candidacy of her son, Mrinal, for the Belagavi Lok Sabha seat under the Congress banner. The officials documented the gathering through photographs and videos, vowing to forward a comprehensive report to the Election Commission for further review.

However, Minister Hebbalkar refuted these allegations, vehemently denying any engagement in campaign activities. Addressing the press, she clarified, “Several ASHA and Anganwadi workers, burdened with additional responsibilities beyond their regular duties, sought relief from election duties. I simply encouraged them to embrace their tasks with enthusiasm. That’s the extent of our interaction.”

Expressing utmost respect for the Election Commission and its regulations, Hebbalkar emphasized her extensive experience in navigating electoral campaigns. “This marks my fifth election, and I am well-versed in managing party affairs without transgressing guidelines. While my son’s potential candidacy is under party consideration, no concrete decisions have been made. Our focus remains on devising strategies to secure victory in Belagavi, Chikkodi, and Canara (Uttara Kannada) constituencies from the BJP,” she affirmed.
