Pan India Cycling Expedition

Indian Army celebrates 27 Oct every year as the Infantry Day to commemorate the first Infantry action by Indian Army post Independence. On this day in 1947 an Infantry Coy of First Sikh Battalion was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals supported by Pakistan Army.

mlirc-cycleThis year Infantry Day is being commemorated in an unique way by way of a Pan India Cycling Expedition from Infantry Regimental Centres located in all corners of India and culminating at India Gate on 27 Oct 2018. The Cycling Expedition will be flagged in by Gen Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Chief Of the Army Staff.

From Belagavi, the MARATHA LI Regimental Centre Cycling Expedition team has been flagged off by Brig Govind Kalwad, YSM, Commandant, The MARATHA LIRC on 03 Oct 2018.

The team led by an officer and nine soldiers of MARATHA REGIMENT will traverse through five states over a period of twenty two days reaching New Delhi on 25 Oct 2018. Along the route, they will interact with local youth and generate awareness about Armed Forces and Infantry in particular. The spirit of adventure portrayal through the expedition and pride in serving for the nation to motivate the youth to join armed forces is a befitting agenda to commemorate Infantry Day 2018.
