The wait for the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra to be opened in Belagavi is getting more as the days pass by. In may it was scheduled to commence operations by June end, but didn’t hear a word about it.
We filed an RTI with the Ministry of External affairs to know the Truth, and we have the following reply
The ministry of External affairs is in the process of completing the necessary formalities like selection/ preparation of the site, procurement of equipment’s etc for the opening of POPSK at Belagavi.
We had also filed another RTI with the Department of posts and the reply was
There was no direct correspondence by the Belagavi GPO with the MEA or the state government except for the one visit by the Deputy Passport officer from Bengaluru.
What we also learn is the tender process was stalled due to some technical reason and hence the delay to establish the POPSK.
From the above we can just hope that by September end we will get a clear picture as to when the POPSK will be operational from Belagavi.
Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Belagavi soon, we had published this story on February 10 and minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted that POPSK would commence operations before 31st of March 2017. We missed all those deadlines due to technical reasons.
Ministry of External affairs in its press note stated that in the first phase, it has been decided to open 86 POPSK in the country. 52 POPSK have become functional. MEA and DOP are working closely for the operationalization of passport related services at the remaining 34 POPSK in the first phase.
