Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who was in Belagavi on Sunday where he unveiled the statue of Late MoSR Suresh Angadi said the Govt will make a proposal and send the same to the center to name the Belagavi-Bengaluru direct train as Angadi Express.
It may be recalled that this direct train which took less travel time was initiated by Late Angadi during his tenure as MoSR.
To fulfill the dream of the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi rail line, the state govt will soon release funds for the land acquisition for the said project, the CM added.
After Shri Suresh Angadi took over as Minister of State of Railways, he immediately got the survey for this Railway line sanctioned in August 2019.
Though earlier the initial survey was done in 2013-14, as the proposal was not approved then, it was decided to take up a fresh survey. The work was entrusted to K-RIDE. The survey was completed in a record time of two years.
Detailed Project Report for 90 Km New BG line between Dharwad (Kyarkoppa) and Belagavi (via Kittur, M.K. Hubballi & Bagewadi) was submitted to Railway Board in November 2019. This new BG line will have 11 stations (including 4 existing stations). The total cost of the new BG line is approx. Rs.988.3 Crore.

This turnkey order includes the three new line projects –Belagavi-Dharwad via Kittur, Shimoga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur and Tumkur-Devangree via Chitradurga, with a total cost of Rs. 4027 crore.
