During the fiscal year, the Belagavi GST Commissionerate has taken up various steps to facilitate taxpayer compliance. The Commissioner had extensive interactions with members of the trade bodies, heard their problems and issued directions for resolving them. Further to facilitate trade and industry by ensuing timely availability of working capital, timely sanctioning of eligible GST refunds is ensured, and it is monitored closely by the Commissioner. As part of the nation’s Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, a Taxpayer facilitation centre is created at GST Bhavan, Club Road, Belagavi to assist trade and industry.

The Commissionerate has also done well in acting against the evaders of tax. A huge consignment of Arecanut worth Rupees seven Crore was confiscated in September 2021 as it was being transported without e-way bill. These perishable areca nuts have been successfully auctioned and the amount recovered. Anti-evasion wing has also recovered Rs. 3 Cr in Cash and Rs. 503 Cr in ITC by booking 101 number of cases in this financial year. It had detected Rs. 549 Cr tax evasion and the recovery process is under way. Both the Central and State authorities are cross empowered under the GST law to act against tax evaders.
