Karnataka State government will start a rehabilitation centre near Belgaum (approx 40 kms from the city) for children who are living with HIV or are orphaned following the death of their parents who lived with HIV.

The centre would be spread over 250 acres and would also have a research facility along with other facilities from schooling to Yoga therapy. The diet of the children would be designed by The Central Food Technological Research Institute and the rehabilitation centre would be a first-of-its-kind in the country.
Medical Education Minister S A Ramadass said 14 legislators have adopted HIV-AIDS affected children, adding, the Government plans to undertake a programme next month by which all the 300 legislators — 225 MLAs and 75 MLCs — would adopt such kids.

Nearly 300 children have been identified and a sum of Rs.1 crore have been kept aside for the novel project.

The centre would also be offering courses for parents with HIV.
