Belagavi Lok Sabha member Jagadish Shettar met Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan in New Delhi today, presenting a proposal to establish the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management (NIFTEM) in Belagavi.
Highlighting Karnataka’s substantial progress in agriculture, MP Shettar emphasized the state’s diverse crop cultivation, including millet, wheat, rice, pulses, sugarcane, and tobacco. Karnataka is also renowned for exporting spices such as black pepper, cardamom, and ginger to international markets.
Belagavi, a city with a strong industrial foundation, was credited as the birthplace of the hydraulics industry in Karnataka. The city has effectively leveraged its opportunities, overcoming challenges to establish itself as a significant hub for agriculture, industry, and commerce.
During the meeting, Shettar underscored these achievements, advocating for NIFTEM’s establishment in Belagavi to benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, consumers, and other stakeholders.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan responded positively, assuring a review of the proposal and the region’s potential before moving forward with the initiative, as per a press release from MP Jagadish Shettar.
Belagavi’s recognition as a thriving center for growth strengthens its case for hosting this prestigious institute, which promises to enhance opportunities across the agricultural and food processing sectors.
