The long-awaited survey for the new Belagavi-Kolhapur railway line has commenced in Sankeshwar. This railway line forms a critical part of the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi corridor, extending to Sankeshwar and Kolhapur.
Work on the Belagavi-Dharwad-Kittur section is already underway. Meanwhile, historical surveys, including the 2012 Central Railway (Pune) survey of the 191-kilometer Karad-Belagavi route and two separate South Western Railway (Hubli) surveys for Pachhapur-Sankeshwar-Kolhapur, had laid the groundwork for this ambitious project.
Recently, the Railway Board approved a high-speed route with a proposed operational speed of 160 km/h (broad gauge). To facilitate this, ₹55 lakh has been sanctioned for the Primary Engineering and Traffic (PET) survey for the Kolhapur segment (85 kilometers) via Paraknatti-Sankeshwar. Monarch Surveyors and Engineering Consultants Ltd., Pune, is spearheading the current survey efforts.
In Sankeshwar, drone cameras are being deployed to map areas from Nipani to the Kangala KIDB border. Key survey locations include Lakshmi Hargapur Lake, Chorge and Pimple land drains near Ankle, Nidsoshi Road in Sankeshwar, Swastik Gas, Gomda Ghatge Mala, Housing Colony, Rawandi Shet on Kamatanur Road, Kamatanur Gate, and Nerli Dargah via Hukkeri. Surveyors are marking sites with red and white stripes and collecting data on drain dimensions and water flow patterns intersecting the railway alignment.
This project is expected to significantly boost transportation efficiency and economic growth for Karnataka and Maharashtra. The Karnataka Government has pledged to provide free land and contribute 50% of the project’s funding. Once the survey report is finalized, the Railway Board and Central Government will decide on the project’s implementation.
The Belagavi-Kolhapur railway line is poised to become a vital link between the two states, accelerating development and strengthening inter-state connectivity.
Correct, it’s too good information by ABB,and also great work, keep it up
It’s a good initiative, but how long it takes God knows. By road it is only 101 kms from bgm by road on NH . If we hv metro on this streath on the middle of the NH no acquisition of land and its cost aspect to the state govt. Only approvals, and technical aspect of hydrology for its sustenance further more it connects all the places enroute. Huge foot traffic is effected . More over we are to remember here that this stretch is going to fall on mumbai blore industrial corridor. Many industries, town ship development will catchup very fast. If this is taken up really, u can see a new Hour coming up in this part of the state alike we hv one in blore connecting Chennai. Really a boon for these places on this section. Hats off to, new technology which has transformed totally. Hence this can be funded under gathi Shakti. Govts in the day hv to sink their opinions and hv to take-up this as a challenge. If I am right one of our south MLA had this in his vision project in his 1st term , this idea for over alldevelopment of this part of the state. We hv to appreciate his long time thinking for this. Hope the eyes and ears do think about this innovation project. Less cost and time only implication. Tq.

It’s a very wonderful idea indeed no need to go for land acquisition simply use the minimum funds for maximum outputs ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
As suggested by one of the readers, instead of laying a new rail lines between Belgaum and Kolhapur feasibility of introducing metro lines along the median of the existing 4or 6 lane NH4 highway would speed up the matter avoiding fresh acquisition of fertile lands along the route.Of course to take an appropriate decision,a study has to be made regarding the distance between the cities involved by the proposed new railway route and the exisisting highway and if it is found any change of distance substantially by new route then it can be taken up.My only request to the concerned authorities is to speed up the proposal, either new railway route or existing highway by metro so that besides belgaum city the residents of twin cities Hubli dharwad are benefitted to enable them to travel frequently to seek blessings from Sri Mahalaxmidevi.
The news of new railway line between BELAGAVI to Kolhapur the two big developing cities of both state now the survey is going on paraknatti pashapur and HUKKERI SANKESHWAR via ANKALI and Kanagala but my suggestion from BELAGAVI side by NH 4 from BELAGAVI KAGATI through national highway then CHANNAMMA university aside by vantamuri ghat then HATTERKI Hebbal SANKESHWAR Solapur circle then Kanagala AND SIDE KANAGALA KIADB STVANIDI NIPPANI KAGAL STAR MIDC THEN KOLHAPUR THIS ROUTE IS MOST BEST CONNECTION FOR BOTH STATES AND MUCH MORE DEVELOPED AND GROWTH TO MAKE THIS ROUTE SO MY SUGGESTION I MADE IT SO THINK RAILWAY AUTHORITY OF INDIA TO THINK ONCE AND GO AHEAD THIS ROUTE IS MOST COMFORT AND DEVELOPMENT GO VERY FAST SO PLEASE THINK AND PROVIDE THE RAIWAY LINE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE THANKS TO INDIAN RAILWAY AUTHORITIES
