The award, which includes a cash prize of ₹10,000, honors her exceptional courage in saving three lives in a critical situation.
On the evening of August 22, around 8:30 PM, Shirsha was traveling with her parents near Tilakwadi’s Congress Road first railway gate when she noticed an alarming sight—a distressed woman with two small children walking dangerously close to the railway tracks. Sensing the situation was dire, Shirsha acted swiftly, urging her parents to stop the car.
Without a second thought, she ran toward the trio and called for help from nearby passersby. Displaying remarkable composure and bravery, Shirsha helped rescue the woman and her children from an apparent suicide attempt. The timely intervention ensured their safety, and soon after, the family’s relatives arrived to take them home.
The incident, which could have ended in tragedy, turned into an inspiring story of quick thinking and empathy. Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar lauded Shirsha’s heroic actions, emphasizing the importance of such values among young individuals.
