Six persons were arrested by the Belagavi police this afternoon at around 3 pm after the police had got a tip off. They had made two teams which searched the six arrested persons. One person is still absconding.
One team went to the Rex lodge near forest office while the other team nabbed 3 persons moving around suspiciously near the civil hospital.
5 pistols, 29 bullets, 3 knifes, 18 mobiles, sim cards and a Honda car with a changed number were seized by the police.
The arrested have been identified as Anup Gowda, Avinash from Mumbai, Mohadmad Haneef from Mangalore, Reddy from Bengaluru, Tahir Hussain, Ahemad and Abdul Karim from Mumbai. Gulfam is absconding.
Anup Gowda who was to board the Spicejet plane was arrested from the Sambra aiport.
Speaking to press persons, G Radhika, DCP said that they are still interrogating the arrested and the motive behind the same is not clear.
She further said that as per preliminary information there is a convict in Hindalga Jail, Dinesh Shetty. The arrested persons had made a plan for getting Dinesh Shetty out of Jail. Their plan was that Shetty will come to civil hospital with some ailment from there they will elope. It is also learnt that they needed money and were planning a dacoity.
Police are still investigating the matter.
