Those students ignored the local fishermens warning of high tide

In a shocking incident 8 persons, 7 students and one professor have been drowned at the Malvan beach, five boys and three girls, were part of a group of 47 students were from Belagavi.

 

According to the police, the victims were part of a group of 47 students from Maratha Engineering College in Belagavi, who were in the Wayri Beach area on a picnic.

wayriAround 30 of them ventured to take a swim in the sea. The police claimed that the students allegedly ignored warning of strong current by the locals and ventured into the sea. Three students were rescued from the sea and 19 others swam to safety while the unlucky 8 lost their lives.

The local police said that -It was the time of high tide and some students had ventured into the deep water. After some of them began drowning, some others in the group rushed to save them, but it was late.

Out of the three rescued, Two of them are admitted in a Malvan hospital and one girl, who is in a serious condition, is being treated at the state-run hospital in Oros.

Names of injured: Sanket Gadvi, Anita Hanali, Akansha Ghatge
