The Deputy Commissioner, Nitesh Patil, has expressed concern over the increasing incidence of the JN-1 mutant virus and has instructed precautionary measures to be taken. It has been confirmed that a government official in Belagavi has contracted the coronavirus after he had symptoms and currently is in home isolation.

To prevent a shortage of beds, oxygen, and ICU facilities in the district, Patil emphasized the need for preparedness to control the spread of the JN-1 variant. A meeting was held on Thursday (Dec 21) in the auditorium of the city collector’s office to discuss the necessary steps.

Following the guidelines issued by the state government, increased inspections should be conducted at the border. COVID-19 testing should be ramped up in border districts, and reports should be promptly submitted. Patil stressed the importance of testing individuals with severe lung and respiratory problems for COVID-19.

Immediate testing for COVID-19 is crucial for individuals experiencing severe lung issues, respiratory problems, or any related symptoms. Furthermore, instructions should be given to establish separate rooms for COVID-19 patients in both government and private hospitals.

Patil directed health department officials to advise individuals with symptoms such as fever, cough, and cold to seek immediate medical attention and follow precautionary measures to control the spread of the virus. It is essential for doctors and medical staff working in hospitals to wear masks as a preventive measure.

Attendees accompanying patients in hospitals must maintain a safe distance from the patients and wear masks at all times.

Patil also emphasized the importance of medical officers and tehsildars from taluk hospitals visiting healthcare facilities regularly to monitor bed availability.
