The negligence of elected representatives towards the burning issues of North Karnataka was made glaringly apparent during the winter session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha Belagavi.
Of the 224 legislators, only 30 participated, with Muddebihal MLA AS Patil Nadahalli taking the lead in highlighting the issues of North Karnataka.
From the outset, the number of legislators present did not exceed 100. Despite the assembly’s 41 hours and 20 minutes of business, only two hours were devoted to the issues of the North Karnataka region.
During the session, the Council held discussions for 45 hours on various bills, questions, and issues of the state, and passed six bills.
In the 2021 session, the assembly transacted for a total of 52 hours and 14 minutes over the course of its 10-day session, during which 14 bills were approved.
This lack of attention to the pressing issues of North Karnataka was a stark reminder of the negligence of elected representatives towards the region.
