The district administration has demanded that the bungalow area be included in the transfer of the Cantonment Board to the Municipal Corporation, alongside urban settlements. This demand was strongly put forth during an online meeting held on Tuesday.

The meeting, attended by representatives from the Cantonment Board, the district administration, and Army officials from Delhi and Pune, marked the first discussion on the transfer after a gap of three to four months.

While the Cantonment Board has agreed to transfer civilian settlements, they cited technical difficulties in including the bungalow area in the transfer. Despite this, the district administration and local representatives reiterated their request, emphasizing the importance of integrating the entire area for seamless governance.

During the meeting, the survey data and the total land earmarked for transfer were reviewed. District Collector Mohammad Roshan presented the state government’s position, while Cantonment officials outlined the procedural aspects of the transfer. Key participants included Cantonment Chairman Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, CEO Rajeev Kumar, and senior Ministry of Defense officials.

The discussions are expected to continue as stakeholders work towards resolving technical challenges and finalizing the transfer process.

  3. In Sagar Cantonment, the Bungalows are bought by Civilians almost 60-80 years back. The third & fourth generations are residing in it. We have spent crores of money to maintain them. In our cantonment we also have Post office, BSNL office,Collector & Superintendent of Police Bungalow along with Railway officials residence, Railway station etc. All civil, one fourth population of Sagar City stays in Cantonment,Army has occupied lot of areas in Cantt & other places of Sagar Distt. Therefore, all the civil population areas of Sagar cantt should be transferred to Municipal corporation without any reservations. Also there are many Schools also in Sagar Cantonment area.
Army has more than 40% vacant areas all over India, why should they uproot people like us staying in our respective Bungalows for ages and throw us on roads. That’s not civilization. I hope the authorities will take into account the above written facts and bring Sagar Cantonment sooner than later into civil jurisdiction transferring it to Municipal corporation without any reservations.

  6. In the meantime High lease Rent imposed on the lease holder whose 90 years lease period has already been expired ought to be kept in abeyance till the final decision on excision is complete. And endeavor ought to be made that legitimate lease holder are not harassed by their respective CEO or DEO in the pretext of PPE act

  7. The transfer of Cantt areas to State Govts, is only to profiteer by politicians and builders and destroy the ambiance of Cantonments, throughout the country. It will also reduce the area required for training areas for the Armed Forces. And it is the Camping Grounds for the Armed Forces throughout the country, used for camping of troops ever since pre Independence days has been usurped by politicians, without a murmur from the Defence Lands and Cantonments organisation . The plan to further bifurcate the cantonment lands and hand over to local Civil Administration is fraught with grave danger to the Training requirements of the Forces. Till now no one knows what has happened to the huge tracts of land held by erstwhile military Dairy Farm organisation.

  9. See the Bungalows are with civilians for ages, from where does politicians,Bulders etc. come. It’s absurd to talk about imagination. Those who have reservations and cannot move with the masses can handover their places to Army & take shelter where civilians don’t exists. With regards to any training etc. Armed forces have ample vacant areas all over India in their possessions for it. Also Army needs complete safety & should be away from civilians in order to maintain secrecy, their movements, their training etc. In view of it, it was a good decision by Government to abolish Cantonments set up by Britishers with mostly civilians residing. The areas where Armed forces have their presence & are occupied 100% by Army those are anyway going to remain with Armed forces.
