The issue of naming Belagavi airport as Rani Channamma airport was again discussed in the Legislative council today, and CM HD Kumarswamy said his govt will again send the proposal to Central government and ministry of Civil Aviation.
Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy who was replying to the question raised by Mahantesh Kavatagimath, said that a proposal for the naming of Belagavi airport as Rani Channamma airport was submitted by the state government to ministry of Civil aviation but it has been rejected. However, another fresh proposal will be submitted to department soon and he would personally meet central aviation minister requesting to approve the proposal.
It may be recalled that, then Union Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapatiraju who was speaking on the occasion of dedicating the upgraded Belagavi airport had said if the Cabinet approves and submits the proposal to the Aviation Ministry the name of Kittur Rani Chennamma would be approved. He said it would help carry the history forward to the next generation.
Let us get more flights from Belgavi first to various destinations. This should be our main priority.
We do not want any name to the airport, we want the flights to operate from it. People are not fools anymore not to understand these bogus promises. Make your priorities right first.
Nice Information keep up the good work
Star Airways has opened the counter at Belagavi airport I enquired over there couple of days ago, they will start the flight services from end of December to Bengauluru and Tirupati.
First have flights; we have no Mumbai flight but they want to carry history. Live in the present n as usual don’t waste time n effort in names. How regressive can they be in these modern times?!
