Who is Mahantesh Vakkund? Belagavi BJP Rebel Candidate Makes Waves

In a surprising turn of events, Mahantesh Vakkund, the present District Secretary – BJP Belagavi, has hinted at contesting the upcoming elections for the Belagavi Loksabha constituency as a BJP rebel candidate. Vakkund’s announcement came during a press conference today, sparking intrigue and speculation within the political circles. But who exactly is Mahantesh Vakkund?

Mahantesh Vakkund, also known as Mahant, was born to Adiveppa Vakkund and Neelavva Vakkund, who were involved in the humble professions of vegetable vending and catering. Despite his modest beginnings, Mahant Vakkund pursued higher education, completing coursework towards a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at HIT Nidasoshi, Belagavi.

His professional journey took him to prestigious positions at global companies. Vakkund worked as Principal Member of Technical Staff at HCL Technologies in Bengaluru from September 2006 to March 2012. Subsequently, he served as a Senior Design Engineer at TECH MAHINDRA GMBH in Hamburg, Germany, from April 2012 to December 2015, before returning to his roots in Belagavi.

In the political arena, Mahantesh Vakkund has been an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He currently holds the position of District Secretary in the BJP Belagavi unit, with a history of serving in various capacities within the party. Notably, he served as the District General Secretary for BJYM (BJP Yuva Morcha) from June 2016 to December 2019 and as the District President of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan BJP Belagavi in May 2015.

Vakkund’s political journey traces back to his early involvement with organizations like the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) in 1998, followed by active roles in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from 2000 to 2006. Since 2008, he has been a steadfast member of the BJP.

Beyond politics and corporate life, Mahantesh Vakkund is recognized for his philanthropic endeavors. In 2020, he emerged as a Corona relief warrior, providing aid to thousands in need with food, groceries, and transportation. His humanitarian efforts extended to distributing oxygen concentrators and Ayurveda medicines across multiple districts, including Belagavi, Chikkodi, Vijayapura, Uttar Kannada, and Bengaluru.

Chairing the Mahant Vakkund (Samarpanam) Foundation since June 2019, Vakkund has been instrumental in various social causes, ranging from flood relief to supporting acid attack victims and facilitating children’s education. The foundation’s mission encompasses societal welfare initiatives, including women’s empowerment, job creation, and youth development.
