The 9 km Halga Macche bypass on which work had not progressed as the farmers had protested as the majority of the land is fertile and multiple crops are been taken was commenced yesterday under police protection.
Since 2011, the said road is planned but due to the protests, the work could not be commenced.
Now NHAI has taken police protection and begun the work in Macche village yesterday.
A petition is also pending in the court the farmers said.
The process of land acquisition was first started in 2008.
