It has been a long journey with 5 flights in a day to Zero, and then again one Air India Flight to Bengaluru. Today Sambra Airport will witness one more historical event in its 77-year journey, the commencement of Flights under UDAN 3.0. Belagavi has got 13 routes under UDAN and one will commence from today while StarAir will commence one more to Ahmedabad from May 15.
SpiceJet will commence its Hyderabad operations under the UDAN scheme from today (1-5-2019).
When all the SpiceJet flights got diverted and we the people in Belagavi started showing a lot of resentment over it, but this criticism raised some strength, in understating to take this battle to next level, the battle to mass and the political class where it needs to be heard rightly and hit strongly.
Blessing in disguise came in when Save IXG campaign on twitter started by Aequs CEO Mr. Arvind Melligeri. This campaign was the much-needed spark to ignite the fire among we Belagaviites and went on to the next level and it was also headed using a social network platform WhatsApp by Chaitanya Kulkarni, Sachin Sabnis and Yogesh. Started as Save IXG, it was rechristened as FOAB group which has the who’s who from the city.
This group brought in all the trade bodies under one forum, and all the forum heads like CREDAI, KASSIA, Aequs, Chamber of commerce, Foundry Cluster, doctors, Bankers, Educationalists, lawyers, industrialist in their various capacities contributed to the cause of much-needed push to get the flight operations to the historical Airport of Belagavi in the state.
This forum now had one lacking factor to say and that was political will, with as usual “chalta hai attitude”, but the citizen rage and anguish this time enlighten our political representatives to shun their do-nothing attitude to act upon, there is where the whole journey for the inclusion of Belagavi under UDAN 3 started. The elected representatives did make some tweets, but definitely, they would have performed better.
In their personal capacity they all lead a delegation taking our elected representatives to the corridors of power in Delhi and that made a huge impact but though with initial disappointment of non-inclusion was a setback and best backed by rival MP to curtail as new flights to Belagavi means less load for the them and his constituency and keep Belagavi with minimum flights of Bangalore.
Belagavi constitutes a very large cosmopolitan crowd of Defense establishment and the business establishment here have niche identity in hydraulics and engineering products and not the least the educational institutions and medical world-class facilities, in the coming days the skies of Belagavi will more colorful with crisscross of Airlines and new destinations, giving the best to people of Belagavi and nearby places

First of all I would like to welcome the launching of UDAN 3 flight from Belagavi since today on the historic day of International worker’s day,May day.Though it’s too little, too late.I would like to congratulate all ,whose sustained efforts led to the launching of first fligjt under UDAN 3, from Belagavi to Hyderabad .IT would be beneficial to the Belagavites as well as to the defence personals and the students who come to Belagavi from every part of the country ,as Belagavi has become the big educational hub,particularly a medical hub.
I would like to extened special Congratulations to the R S M P and Chairman Chancellor of the KAHER KLE UNIVERSITY, Dr Prabhakar Kore, who left no stone unturned to get this UDAN 3 scheme sanctioned by the Central Government. Due to the untiring efforts of Dr Kore, now we see the UDAN 3 scheme getting started since today.I extend my good wishes to all the airlines operating from Belagavi too.At the same time I would like to get all the selected and approved 13 routes flights to be operationalised soon.A feather in the cap of Belagavi.
