Chief project planning officer Ashok Dodmani of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat died on the spot when his car overturned near Mumingatti cross, Dharwad.
Driver and his wife have been injured but are stated to be out of danger.
They were on their way to Belagavi from Hubballi.
