belgaum_stadiumThe international standard cricket infrastructure, which is coming up at Autonagar, Belgaum will be completed by the end this year most probably, sources working on the stadium said.

The work on the same was started in 2007 by Karnataka Cricket Association. The work which was at a snails pace has now gathered momentum.

The outfield will consist of Bermuda grass; the lush green outfield, will have eight-turf wickets at the centre apart from six-practicing wicket including a concrete wicket. KSCA have developed a cricket ground to provide opportunity to youngsters of Belgaum to play on an international standard ground. Once the ground comes up lot of matches will be played on this ground apart from this, KSCA will also come out with academy for U-16 and U-19 boys.

Already more than Rs 1 crore have been spent and it may cross more than Rs 2 crore before it is completed.

Anil Kumble who inspected the preparations at the ground was happy with the work. Avinash Potdar briefed Kumble about the work. A good pavilion will be constructed at the stadium he added. If all goes well by October end the stadium could be ready for practice matches.

President of KSCA Anil Kumble yesterday said that Belgaum will host a Ranji Match soon on the same ground.

  1. Its great to know about this news. Apart from our school and college grounds we did not had any grounds in Belgaum. i remember once in early 70s we had Ranji Trophy match and we had gone to see Gundappa Vishwanath and Brijesh Patel…i dont remember which ground it was. Must be Lingraj college or some in Camp. Welcome addition to Belgavi.
