MLIRC Lifts Prestigious Aga Khan Hockey Cup

The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MARATHA LI RC) hockey team participated in senior category of 113th edition of Aga Khan Hockey Tournament, one of the oldest in the country & annually organised by the Maharashtra Hockey Association and wrote another chapter in its glorious history by winning the prestigious event after a gap of 54 years.

mlirc-hockeyTeams from across the country rubbed shoulders in this 10-day championship held at Pune from 16-25 Sep 16. In the finals played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Pimpri on 25 Sep 16, the MARATHA LI RC team beat KD Singh Babu Society, Lucknow by 2-1 having beaten District Hockey Association, Itarsi by 7-0 in the semifinals.

Lance Naik Krishnath Patil of the MARATHA LI RC was awarded the ‘Best Player’ of the Tournament in the senior category.

  1. Very proud of this achievement. Congratulations! I was a school-boy when MLIRC last won the tournament, with players like Laxman and Bandu.
