Semi-Finals line up for Royceton Gomes Memorial Tournament

royceton football belgaum The League phase of the Memorial Cup 2014 of the Royceton Gomes Memorial Tournament concluded today on the grounds of St. Paul’s High School.

On a day that started out with good favourable weather, in the first match at 2:30 PM, MV Niketan took on Cantonment School. The match began well with both teams fighting hard to score. Both team had equally good defense lines as the first goal of the match was scored in the 16th minute by Vinit Patil of MV Niketan. By the end of the first half, MV Niketan was in the lead 1 – 0. The match continued in the second half on a similar tone but Sarvesh Kugaji of MV Niketan managed to take out a trick from his hat to score 3 consecutive goals in the 36th, 40th and 45th minutes. MV Niketan won the match 4 – 0.

In the second match of the day at 3:30 PM, KLE International School played against M V Herwadkar School. KLE began the match on an aggressive tone by Harsh Deasi scoring two consecutive goals in the 9th and 12th minutes. Herwadkar fought hard to score and Vishal Chavan opened the score for Herwadkar in the 15th minute. The first half ended by KLE leading 2 – 1. In the second half, Harsh Desai also seemed to be on a roll by scoring two more goals in the 30th and 35th minute. Herwadkar was not ready to give up yet without a fight as Kaushal Sherigar scored a goal in the last few minutes of the match. KLE won the match 4 – 2.

In the last and final match of the League phase, St. Paul’s played against MVM. Matthew Periker of St. Paul’s opened the score of the match early in the 3rd minute. Clearly St. Paul’s was on the attack to score but they missed to convert numerous chances. MVM fought back hard and Sushil Ghodake equalized the score in the 19th minute. That spurred St. Paul’s to fight hard to gain a lead and Niegel Vaz scored a goal for St. Paul’s in the 23rd minute. The score at half-time was 2 – 1 with St. Paul’s leading. In the second half, both teams stepped up their game and both teams missed numerous chances to score but Gourav Malavi of St. Paul’s score a brilliant goal in the 35th minute. The goal-keeper, Siddharth Biradar, of MVM saved numerous goals for MVM. St. Paul’s won the match 3 – 1.

 

The end of the League phase today declared the following Semi-Finalists:

 

Pool-A – St. Xavier’s High School

 

Pool-B – KLE International School

 

Pool-C – Sant Meera School

 

Pool-D – St. Paul’s High School

 

The first Semi-Final on Wednesday, 6th August, at 3:00 PM will be played between St. Xavier’s High School and Sant Meera School followed by the second Semi-Final at 4:30 PM between KLE International School and St. Paul’s High School.
