The BJP, INC, Aam Admi Party, Shiv Sena, MES and other political parties are gearing up to field their candidates in the next Corporation elections on their symbols. Many would say so what’s the news here?

The Belagavi city corporation elections have never been fought on party lines. In all the past elections, candidates filed nomination papers as independent candidates and after elections, formed groups based on their language affiliations like Marathi Group, Kannada Group, and Urdu Group.

But this time all the parties are keen on going ahead with the Party symbols and official Party candidates.

BJP has nominated District in-charge minister Govind Karjol and MLA Abhay Patil to decide the list of candidates.

While former Congress minister M.B. Patil has been given the responsibility for the INC.

The Aam Admi party is also looking out for candidates it wants to fray in all the 58 wards.

Each time the Pro Marathi or Pro Kannada groups have celebrated the election of the Mayor and Dy Mayor from their group.

None of the parties have ever fielded any candidates on their official symbols nor the Congress nor BJP nor JDS. All filed their nominations as independents only.

Many times new groups of a few Marathi, Kannada, Urdu Councilors were also made from which eventually a Mayor was elected.

The notification for the ULB polls would be released on August 16 and polling will happen on September 3.

  1. Good for Belgavi. As a citizen of Belgaum , let’s elect the candidate who has some vision for Belgaum, rather than electing a person who gets involved into unwanted politics, which has kept belgaum behind all other cities.
