Your blog otherwise covers all events happenings big and small in Belgaum, how ever I was quite surprised how you missed the Lecture by Lord Meghnad Desai on 25th Feb, the world renowned Economist and British Parlimentarian, which was extremly well received and extensively covered by the media and apart from that he was the biggest British celebrity to visit Belgaum since independence.

    • Today Tarun Bharat published news that Spicejet would be flying from BGM to Blore from Nov 22, 2012.
0830 Arrival from Blore and 0900 departure to Blore.
But the Winter schedule published on DGCA site on Oct 28 says otherwsie. Taking the same schedule many newspapers like DNA have published stories that there wont be flights from Belgaum.
When I contacted Spicejet tehy gave same answer stay tuned….

  17. Hello Uday, Greetings!

Hope you are aware of one more Star of Belgaum who has made Belgaumites proud i.e., Mahantesh Ghativalappa Kivadasannavar the Samarthanam Trust’s (http://www.samarthanam.org/ ) founder and managing trustee.

He is known for his social work; especially in the disability sector who has extended the goalposts beyond education and enabling livelihood for the disabled.

    A brief about Mahantesh G K:

Born in the small yet culturally rich town of Belgaum, Mahantesh has achieved a lot more than his parents would have dreamed of him as a child. An avid student of English literature, Mahantesh was very good with sports, cultural activities throughout his academic years. Since founding Samarthanam in 1997, Mahantesh is known for his social work; especially in the disability sector, however his other stints include founding Bcare—an organisation for the support and rehabilitation of HIV / AIDS patients, and his contributions as a member of Association for Cricket for the Blind in Indian (ACPI).

I am sure Belgaumites would love to know more about him as he is a very inspiring & down to earth person, thus if possible please interview him on behalf of AAB.

You can contact him on his cell : 9448365929 or e-mail : [email protected]

    Thanks & regards,
    Praveen.

i am using mozilla firefox latest version. it is annoying to start everything from the beginning. Hope it is fixed soon.

    All the best.

  19. This website is quite informative. I would like to make one suggestion: upcoming events in key categories like “cultural”, “sports” etc. should appear (perhaps in a scrolling window) on the very first page. For example, on 27th (Sunday) there was a great Hindustani classical music concert in Lokamanya Rang Mandir, organized in memory of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. The concert had singers like Pt. Anant Terdal, Pt. Anand Bhate, Poornima Bhat Kulkarni and Pt. Vinayak Prabhu. But, I could not find information about this event on the site.

  27. Hi Uday, It’s awesome that you’re providing all news so Belgaumites can be aware about their city events even without staying in Belgaum. Would like to suggest a Forum creation where people can contribute their experiences/ask questions etc. E.g. New Cab service experience, Harrassment issues, Sweets delivery experiences and people can even suggest solutions to each other. Once people start posting reviews Stores and Service providers will also become more vigilant.
Currently when an article is posted people add comments but after couple of weeks not all may look at the comments so a discussion forum will help where at any point in time one can search for a thread and have a conversation. It may be a bit tough technically so just a suggestion. All info you’re providing is greatly appreciated!

  30. Appeal to all Sai Baba Devotees,

Before taking darshan of Sai Baba there is a big donation box kept exactly in front of Sai Baba Murthi in Sai Temple, 1st gate. This is wrong and is not right for any devotee as the administration should think on it. Any donation should be given to the office and should be in writing. My suggestion is that the donation box is to be removed and if the administration wants can establish a small gate over there and not to keep a donation box it hurts the sentiments of devotees and the management over there should think of it.

  35. A few months back, all the citizens of Belagavi were elated that our city was chosen to be developed as a smart city. But the plight of all of us is showing no signs of receding. I wish to pen a very critical article provided it gets published. Most of the roads are pathetic and the three railway gates in Tilakwadi are death traps and bottle necks. I see no traffic police especially at 3rd gate to monitor and in a width of around 20 feet of the gate i see 4 lanes of traffic piled up in either direction. I get confused on who needs to be educated. There are no sign boards and even though everyone boasts of road widening no one ever follows traffic rules. The slowest vehicles are on the right lane and the driving of two wheelers/cyclists is horrible and irritating. What are the people at helm doing? Why are they shying away from their responsibility. The politics and red-tapism is taking its toll and i see a ring road never happening in reality [Even though there is a lot of documentation apparently, memorandums being submitted and the intent being there!!!!]
