A special board meeting of the Belagavi Cantonment board was held in which the following points were approved.

Illegal parking of commercial vehicles continues to plague the streets of Belagavi Cantonment, despite repeated warnings from the Cantonment Board. Scrap, unused vehicles, and commercial trucks clutter the area, prompting the Cantonment Board to consider imposing fines of 100 per day and taking action for their removal.

The Cantonment Board has issued a notice to the public, instructing them to clear any articles or items obstructing the Cantonment-funded streets within 15 days. Despite these warnings, residents have failed to comply, leading to potential fines for illegal parking and dumping.

In a bid to enhance the city’s infrastructure, the Belagavi Smart City Ltd has installed decorative poles and LED fittings along various roads, including those funded by the State Government and the Cantonment. These improvements aim to benefit the general public, who frequently use these roads for daily commuting. However, the Cantonment Board faces financial constraints, making it difficult to maintain these enhancements, hence the same are now being transferred to City Corporation.

One pressing issue is the heavy traffic on Independence Road, which poses risks to pedestrians, especially school children, and causes damage to the road and pollution in residential areas. Despite requests to divert heavy vehicle traffic from Independence Road, the Traffic Police authorities have yet to act. The Cantonment Board may need to intervene, utilizing legal measures outlined in the Cantonments Act, 2006, to regulate traffic and ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

  1. Is there anything needs to be done to remove cars parked on side walks meant for pedestrians? Due to obstruction of vehicles pedestrians have no choice but to use traffic lanes and get hit by the moving vehicles.
